ADM Henry Mauz ADM Henry H. Mauz, Jr., U.S. NAVY (Retired), is a Senior Fellow at the Center for Civil Military Relations, located at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, and travels to new democracies around the world in that capacity. He is the President of the Naval Postgraduate School Foundation. Before retiring in 1994, he was the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Navy Program Planning. In that capacity, he was responsible for the development of the Navy’s budget, some $75 billion. He oversaw the Navy’s most sensitive high technology programs and directed long-range strategic planning. In August 1990, he served as Commander U.S. Seventh Fleet and assumed command of all U.S. Naval Forces in the Persian Gulf under General Norman Schwarzkopf during Operation Desert Shield. As a Commander, Admiral Mauz was assigned to the staff of the U.S. Mission to NATO in Brussels, Belgium. In December 1990, Admiral Mauz was promoted to four-star rank. In July 1992, he was assigned as Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Atlantic Fleet, with headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia. The Atlantic Fleet comprised over half of the Navy’s force structure, some 230 ships, 2000 aircraft, and 27 bases. The Atlantic Fleet had an operating budget of $4.7 billion, with 150,000 sailors, marines and civilians. He served tours in Vietnam and the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. Admiral Mauz has attended the Air Force Command and Staff College and the Naval War College. He holds a B.S. degree from the United States Naval Academy, a postgraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School, and an M.B.A. degree from Auburn University.
John Kucharski John Kucharski recently retired as Chairman and CEO of a $4 billion public company, EG&G. John was the founder and president of Challenger Research Corp of Rockville, MD from 1959 to 1968. Following the acquisition of Challenger by EG&G, he became Vice President of Engineering and subsequently held positions as President, Chairman, and CEO until his retirement in 1999. He earned a B.S.E.E. degree at Marquette University and a J.D. degree at the George Washington University Law School.
J. Neil Birch J. Neil Birch received his Doctorate in Electrical Engineering from The Catholic University of America in 1965. He served as a Division Chief at the National Security Agency (NSA) and Chief Scientist for the U.S. Navy for Telecommunications Command and Control Systems. He then became the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Communications, Command and Control of Intelligence Programs for the U.S. Military Services. In 1979, Dr. Birch left the Pentagon to form Birch Associates. Birch Associates specialized in assisting U.S. and foreign government and corporate clients in activities relating to electronic communications, security, and surveillance. He served on a number of U.S. government defense-oriented committees and participated as a member of the board of directors for several high technology firms. Dr. Birch is also a Senior Vice President and the Chief Technical Officer for Samanco International. In addition to receiving two distinguished civilian service awards while in the U.S. government, Dr. Birch was elected Fellow of the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers in 1986 for his contributions to U.S. Military Communications. He has been an expert witness on several communications legal cases. He is co-inventor and patent holder for a technique to counter cellular telephone fraud.
Paul W. Fish Paul W. Fish earned a B.S.E.E. and M.E.E. in Electrical Engineering from The Catholic University of America and a J.D. from The George Washington University Law School. He has more than 40 years of diverse governmental and corporate experience specializing primarily in computers and other high-technology areas. His expertise includes counseling major U.S. corporations in all aspects of intellectual property law, licensing, complex litigation matters and general corporate law. Since 1992 he has served as a counsel to many law firms specializing in intellectual property matters and is currently affiliated with the D.C. office of Rader, Fishman & Grauer. He has been a corporate officer of several multi-billion dollar NYSE companies, including: Assistant Corporate Secretary and Director of Patents, Burroughs Corporation; Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company; and most recently, Senior Vice President/Legal, Comdisco, Inc. He is a biographee in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, and Who’s Who in American Corporations.
Peter Bingham Peter Bingham served as President of Philips Research USA, a division of Philips Electronics from 1989 to 1998. At Philips, he was responsible for over 400 researchers in areas such as consumer electronics, HDTV, lighting, solid state lasers, and multimedia software. In addition to developing new technologies, he was responsible for the initiation of strategic alliances with numerous corporations and government agencies. Before his tenure with Philips, Dr. Bingham served as Executive Vice President of Technology, Thomson Consumer Electronics from 1987-1989. At Thomson, he had global responsibility for a broad range of development and engineering activities for professional and commercial products. Previously, he was Vice President of Engineering, Philips Consumer Electronics, where he was responsible for U.S.-based consumer product development. Dr. Bingham also served as Vice President of Engineering for RCA Corporation, where he led RCA television product development. Dr. Bingham holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and an M.S. in Physics from The University of Maryland. He holds a B.S. in Physics (Honors) from Polytechnic University. Dr. Bingham is the holder of 14 U.S. patents.
Donald H. Platt Mr. Platt served as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer & Treasurer of U.S. Office Products Company, Washington, DC from 1995 to 1999. While there, he supervised over 200 mergers and acquisitions to create this $3.9 billion Fortune 500 company. He raised over $2.95 billion of capital through ten separate equity, convertible equity, subordinated notes, and syndicated bank debt offerings. He also conducted the company’s relationship with Wall Street analysts and institutional investors. In June, 1998, he completed the financial reorganization of the company that involved a $1.0 billion stock buy-back, the simultaneous creation of four new public companies, and the leveraging of the company through a $1.5 billion equity/debt transaction. He than moved to a strategic planning role to supervise the company’s international and non-core business operations and to develop core business-line and Internet strategies. Prior to that, he served as Vice President, Dealer Finance (1990 to 1995) at Steelcase, Inc. (Grand Rapids, MI) and President & CEO, Platt Communications (1984 to 1989). Mr. Platt holds an M.B.A. (Finance & Marketing) from Stanford University (1970) and a B.A. (Political Science & Middle Eastern Studies), also from Stanford University (1968). He was a 1998 CFO of the Year Finalist (1 of 4 nationwide, sponsored by Arthur Andersen and CFO Magazine). |
